Backpack Fostering

Calling all adventure seekers and couch cuddlers! Our backpack foster program gives dogs a break from the shelter and a chance to relax, play, and just be a dog- in a real home. Backpack fosters can take a dog out for a few hours, a few days, or overnights (we have crates you can borrow!) These short breaks help dogs decompress, show off their true personalities, and get valuable time outside the shelter.
Why it Matters:
-
Reduces stress and anxiety for shelter dogs
-
Helps dogs become more adoptable
-
Gives our team insight into how dogs do in a home
-
Creates happy memories (and lots of tail wags!)
Whether you're hiking, brunching, running errands, or binge-watching your favorite shows, our dogs would love to tag along.
Foster to Adopt

Are you dreaming of adding a furry member to your family but worried about whether they’ll get along with your current pets, handle the kids, or settle into your routine? Our shelter’s Foster-to-Adopt Program is designed to take the guesswork out of adoption. This allows you to bring a shelter dog into your home without immediately committing to the adoption fee. You get to know their true personality in a comfortable, low-stress environment while helping us save a life.
How It Works:
-
Zero Upfront Adoption Fees: Take the dog home and get to know them. You only finalize the adoption and pay the fee when you are 100% sure they are the right fit.
-
Test the Dynamics: See how they interact with your existing dogs, cats, or children in a real-world setting.
-
Build a Routine: Discover if the dog is a couch potato or a hiking buddy, and adjust your daily schedule to accommodate their training needs.
Benefits of Fostering-to-Adopt:
-
No "Shelter Shock": Dogs act differently in kennels than they do in homes. You get to see the real, happy dog.
-
Save Two Lives: By fostering, you open up a kennel space for another dog in need, while saving the life of the dog you are testing in your home.
-
Peace of Mind: If, after the 30 days, it isn't the right fit, the dog returns to our care, and you’ve helped them become more adoptable by learning their needs.
